The Youthy (Ashford North Youth Centre)
“Providing Fun, Development and Activities for Young People”
Youth work is about informal education and development of young people through fun activities based on a voluntary relationship.
The Youthy is a purpose built youth centre with many facilities including a gym, dance studio, recording studio, band practice area, garage for mechanics, garden, large social area, kitchen and a one-to-one meeting room.
The Youthy offers many activates including; creative arts, music and dance (we have our own recording studio and dance studio), cookery sessions; activities which include kayaking, surfing, mountain biking, climbing as well as traditional sports such as football, trampolining, table tennis, pool etc.
We offer:
- Environmental activities, including gardening, conservation work and animal care.
- Mechanics including motor mechanics and bike maintenance and go karting.
- Trips and residential visits, such as surfing, multi-sports, arts and skiing.
- Cooking, health and contraception.
- Drugs education, community performances in dance and music
- School holiday activities
We also offer the opportunity to gain nationally recognised accreditations such as; Duke of Edinburgh Award, First Aid, Youth Achievement Award, Tryangles, Sports Leaders and National Governing body awards in various sports.
We are open:
Monday 3.30-5:00pm for Duke of Edinburgh Award Club (14 yrs plus)
Monday 6:00-8:00pm for Access Club for disabled young people and their friends (11-25 yrs)
Tuesday 7:00-9.30pm for general Youth Club (13-19 yrs)
Wednesday 5.30-8:00pm junior Youth Club (11-13 yrs)
Thursday 6.30-9:00pm general Youth Club (11-19 yrs)
Friday 3.30-5.30pm ‘Community Cafe’ – alternate weeks cafe run by young people for local residents.
Friday 3.30-5:00pm early Music Club - alternate weeks (11-19 yrs)
Friday 5.30-8:00pm Music Club (11-19 yrs)
Saturday 10:00-1:00pm Table Tennis Club (11-19 yrs)
Monday to Thursday lunch times: open to students from the North School only.
