The North School Farm began life as a wartime garden in the 1930s and has been used for generations to teach young people in the community about horticulture, agriculture and animal care. Recently the farm has been opened more widely to the local community and we encourage farm visits and work days from local primary schools and social organisations.
We currently have a range of animals including a pedigree Devon cattle herd, other cattle breeds, sheep, pigs, geese, chickens, bantams, rabbits, guinea pigs, and some exotic animal species including snakes and lizards.
The farm offers an adoption scheme whereby students can adopt one of our smaller animals over the holidays. If you are interested in caring for one of our animals please click on the link below.
Our pond offers outstanding opportunities for groups or families to explore freshwater aquatics and even help conduct reptile surveys.
The surrounding area is also a haven for wildlife and we encourage students and the wider community to visit our farm to learn about sustainability and bio diversity. We have built an eco greenhouse from plastic bottles, constructed outdoor shelters from living willow and planted a variety of trees.
For the community we hold open events throughout the year including Lambing Weekend and Carols with the Cows. Our Friends of the Farm regularly hold fundraising events and host farm tidy up sessions and quiz nights which the community is welcome to attend. If you would like to plan a visit for your school or group please telephone in the first instance to Mrs Karen Little on 01233 614630.
A pre visit is recommended by all group leaders so that they can carry out their own risk assessment.
