On Monday 28th November members from The North School Young Farmers’ club attended the Ashford cattle show to exhibited one of our home-bred Pedigree Beef Shorthorn calves called Jasper who is twenty one months old. Jasper did very well in his class and won second prize.
The young farmers’ also exhibited eight Texel lambs in some very strong classes and won a fourth and fifth prize.
All the animals exhibited were sold through Ashford market on Tuesday 29th November.
Members from the North School Young Farmers’ club spent a very busy weekend at the Kent County Show in July. As well as the students ranging from year 7 to year 11, 5 cattle, 14 lambs, 2 pigs and a selection of small animals made the journey to Detling near Maidstone. We had huge success over the weekend and won lots of rosettes including 3 reserve champion places and 10 first places. Everyone had a really good time and worked brilliantly as a team. The Kent show is always the highlight of the year and students and staff work for months prior to this event to prepare for it, the hard work had paid off when we came home with 45 rosettes. The North School were congratulated by the Duke of Kent when winning first prize in the butchers’ pair’s class. He thought that the lambs were in very good condition and spoke to Lindsay Stonebanks about the school farm, he was very impressed.
The school farm is busy preparing for the Ashford cattle show which will be held at Ashford Market on 28th and 29th November. We are hoping to take 1 calf and 8 lambs, all of these animals will be judged in a class before being sold the following day. Students are busy preparing these animals for the show and are putting in a lot of work to make sure they are trained and looking their best.
Our annual Spring Fair will be held on Saturday 22nd April 2017. This is an opportunity for members of the public to come and visit our farm and see what we get up to.
